Latin Astragalus membranaceus (tragacanth) is an annual perennial from Asia that has found its place in traditional Chinese medicine. The roots of the astragalus are used there for general weakness, lack of energy and inflammation. The active ingredients of the plant increase the energy production in the cells and give an energy boost. Astragalus is also rich in important fatty acids, amino acids and minerals such as calcium, iron and selenium.
